Gorge Ecology Outdoors

2020 REX FOUNDATION GRANTEE

The Gorge Ecology Outdoors project is a collaboration between three non-profits in the Columbia Gorge area that will provide critical assistance to youth in crisis. There are very few resources for troubled youth to get the support they need to deal with the many forms of grief, stress and anxiety they encounter in their daily lives. In response to the vast needs of underserved youth in the region, Gorge Ecology Outdoors, with its decades of pioneering outdoor education, has teamed up with the newly formed non-profit, Maitri House, which has developed deep learning skills for youth in crisis to create a third non-profit, the Great River Memorial Park and Youth Camp. Maitri House provides and implements the new grief/ecology curriculum, Great River provides the site and Gorge Ecology Outdoors brings the students and 25 years of working with local school districts.
