2020 REX FOUNDATION GRANTEE
Give a Beat Foundation’s mission is to reduce the harmful effects of incarceration through music production, DJing and other education programs that transform individuals and inspire communities to take action. The project “On A New Track” Reentry Mentoring Program, a new program in partnership with Defy Ventures and the California Mentoring Partnership, will train 8 people who have been previously incarcerated in the creative professions of DJing and Music Production. During 6 sessions, they will learn technical skills, use music as a tool for healing, building relationships, as well as learn various aspects of the music business and other transferable skills. Also aiming to support participants interests in employment in the music industry by pairing with professional mentors.
